The Montreal Canadiens sniper scored twice, including the overtime winner, to lead his team to a 3-2 comeback win over the Ottawa Senators in the Kraft Hockeyville game at Colisée Vidéotron in Trois-Rivières, Que.
It was Caufield's second overtime goal in two pre-season games this week after he led the NHL with 12 game-winning goals last season.
The Senators twice led in this game, including early in the first period when newcomer William Eklund scored just 89 seconds into the game after a feed from Dylan Cozens from behind the net. Canadiens defenceman Jayden Struble tied the score three minutes later with a shot in the slot, and it remained tied until Cozens broke the tie in the final minute of the second.
Caufield's first goal of the game tied it up midway through the third, when he scored on a power play off a feed from Lane Hutson. Hutson also picked up the assist on Caufield's overtime winner, which came on a shot from the slot.
Samuel Montembeault (eight saves) and Jakub Dobes (nine saves) split time in the net for the Canadiens, each allowing one goal. Sam Ersson played the whole game for the Senators, making 35 saves.
